Feeding Well Beyond Our Walls
Why Community Giving Is Part of Who We Are at Feed Well
At Feed Well, we spend our days helping families nourish and care for their babies through lactation support and infant therapies. But over the past year, our mission has grown beyond clinic visits and therapy rooms.
Because feeding well should never stop at the clinic door.
One phrase that continues to guide our work is:
“Feeding well extends beyond our walls.”
For us, that means recognizing that food security, infant nutrition, diapers, formula, and access to basic necessities are not luxuries. They are fundamental human needs that every family deserves access to with dignity.
Over the past year, Feed Well has committed to ongoing community giving efforts throughout Howard County and Columbia through donations of:
- Infant formula
- Breastfeeding supplies
- Diapers and wipes
- Shelf-stable pantry items
- Fresh produce
- Frozen meals
- Baby food
- Hygiene products
- Community fridge donations
And today alone, on May 9th, our team donated over 500 pounds of food and supplies to a local pantry.
The Reality of Food Insecurity in Howard County
Howard County is often viewed as one of the wealthiest counties in Maryland. But behind that perception is a very different reality for many local families.
According to the Howard County Health Department, nearly 1 in 6 Howard County residents experiences food insecurity, and concerns about affording food and other essentials continue to rise. Additional community studies have shown that many families in the county worry regularly about running out of food before they can afford to buy more.
Organizations working directly in the community continue to report:
- Empty pantry shelves
- Increased requests for infant formula
- Greater need for diapers and baby supplies
- Families struggling with the rising cost of groceries
- Gaps in access to fresh, nutritious foods
As healthcare providers working closely with infants and parents, these realities are impossible to ignore.
Nutrition affects every aspect of health — growth, development, mental health, postpartum recovery, infant feeding success, and long-term wellness. Families cannot thrive when they are worried about how they will feed their children.
Why This Matters to Us
At Feed Well, we believe food security is a basic human right.
This work was inspired simply by listening to our community and learning more about the needs around us. The more we learned, the more clear it became that support for families must extend beyond appointments and educational resources.
Sometimes support looks like lactation counseling.
Sometimes it looks like feeding therapy.
And sometimes it looks like dropping off diapers, formula, frozen meals, or pantry staples to help a family make it through the week.
All of it matters.
Organizations Making a Difference
We are incredibly grateful for the organizations throughout Howard County that work tirelessly to support local families. These are just a few of the groups we are proud to support and encourage others to get involved with:

Howard County Community Fridges

Atholton High School Food Pantry

How You Can Help
Community care works best when many people participate in small, sustainable ways.
Here are a few meaningful ways to get involved locally:
- Donate diapers, wipes, or formula
- Contribute shelf-stable pantry items
- Support local community fridges
- Volunteer at food distributions
- Organize workplace or neighborhood donation drives
- Share local pantry resources with families in need
- Donate frozen meals or fresh produce when possible
Even small acts of generosity can make a significant impact for a family navigating difficult circumstances.
Looking Ahead
Giving back is not a seasonal initiative for us. It is part of our identity as a practice and part of what we hope Feed Well continues to represent in our community.
As we continue to grow, we hope to expand our outreach efforts, strengthen partnerships with local organizations, and help create a community where every family has access to the nourishment and support they deserve.
Because feeding well extends beyond our walls.
